1913 Bissell Jenkins House For Sale in Charleston, South Carolina (PHOTOS)

Constructed in 1913 by architectural firm Walker and Burden, the Bissell Jenkins House is on the market for $11.2 million and remains one of the grandest of all the Charleston Colonial Revival style dwellings constructed in the early 20th century. Monumental in scale, the beautifully designed Tuscan portico complements the waterfront location. Sited on a 1/2 acre of beautiful gardens, the home is constructed of Summerville brick trimmed in limestone. The red tile roof is topped with a deck surrounded by a handsome balustrade, offering one of the best views in Charleston. The three-storey main house and two-storey guest house both were completely renovated and restored to their original grandeur beginning in 2012 through 2014.

The Colonial-style main home includes fine plasterwork with grand rooms offering excellent light and views of the water. The first-level formal rooms flank the wide center hall entrance, leading to the equally grand staircase. To the left rear of the center hall is a panelled study with charming woodwork. To the right rear of the center hall is a mahogany-panelled gallery, accessing the all-glass morning room, and the very spacious, well-appointed family space and kitchen to the rear of the home. The pool access is on the west side, and formal garden access is on the east side of the generous kitchen space. The second level offers a spacious three-room master suite across the front of the home (dressing, sitting, bedroom), all with direct water views and views through the imposing portico. On the west side of the second level is an additional walk-in closet and sumptuous bath. The master bedroom has direct access to the private second-floor west piazza, perfect for sunsets across the Intracoastal waterway. To the rear of the second floor is the main laundry followed by a gym-sized exercise room, with reinforced flooring and minibar. From that wing is a chic guest bedroom suite.

The guest suite has access to a private sun deck overlooking the formal garden on the east side. The gym features a double-height ceiling if you decide to install a basketball goal. The room is currently used for exercise and billiards. The third level of the main home features a convenient mini bar kitchen at the top of the stairs, a second laundry room, with walk-in cedar storage, plus three spacious bedrooms, all offering ensuite baths. Completing this level is a custom-built staircase designed by architect Eddie Fava, allowing comfortable access to the roof-top deck with incredible views. The guest house was also redesigned by Fava during the renovation to feature a unique two-storey glass façade maximizing the garden and water views. Top-of-the-line finishes, featuring a private guest suite on the first level, and a spectacular main bedroom suite on the second level. Guests will enjoy yacht watching from the main bedroom and the double-height living room below. The luscious garden and grounds completely surround this incredible home. The Bissell Jenkins House is on the market for $11.2 million with Charles Sullivan of Carriage Properties.
