1908 Herschede Mansion by Architect Samuel S. Godley Pending Sale

An exquisite example of Italian Renaissance architecture and an important piece of history in the city of Cincinnati is pending sale after recently relisting for $650,000. Famed clock maker Frank Herschede of Herschede Hall Clock Co. commissioned Cincinnati architect Samuel S. Godley to design the elegant family residence for his wife, Sadie, and their children. The 8,500 square foot freestone mansion was completed in 1908 and remained in the family until 1952. Elegant old world craftsmanship with original pocket doors, hand carved mouldings, stained glass, bronze staircases and a third floor ballroom will transport you to another era. There is over 8,500 square feet in the main house with additional space in a detached five car garage with the former chauffeurs’ quarters. The mansion sits on a 0.72 acre property. The main floor hosts a grand entrance hall leading to a double-winged staircase highlighted by bronze railings and a substantial stained glass window on the landing.

You’ll find original mahogany pocket doors in all the formal rooms with intricate ceiling detail and hand-painted murals. The formal dining room showcases extensive woodwork and a lovely fireplace. Also on the main floor is a side sunroom that originally served as an open porch, a butler’s pantry, back staircase and an absolutely beautiful period kitchen. Ascend the grand staircase into a center hall with sitting room and access to four bedrooms, some of which open to balconies on the front of the home via French doors. The third floor includes an additional three bedrooms, a full bath and a substantial ballroom with a barrel ceiling extending the entire length of the residence. According to the listing, local zoning does allow use as a Bed & Breakfast, but wouldn’t this place make a fabulous museum!? Imagine her dressed up for Christmas. The Herschede Mansion is pending sale and on the market for $650,000 with Adam Sanregret of Coldwell Banker.
