Amazing! Two Bengal white tigers born at Liberec Zoo in Czech (Video)
Visitors to the Liberec Zoo can see two-month-old white tiger cubs in the indoor exhibit. The birthing box, where she had been hidden until now, was closed to the animals last week.
“Of course, we keep the possibility that if something happens, we will reopen the maternity hospital,” said the chief zoologist in Liberec, Luboš Melichar.
The two tiger cubs and their mother Surya Bára could be seen by visitors already at the weekend, when about 1,500 people came. According to Melichar, it was a stress test that turned out successfully. “The kittens don’t seem to mind at all. The cat was a little stressed at first, but she seems to have calmed down as well,” said Melichar. However, the zoo asks visitors to be quiet in the animal pavilion and not to use flash when taking pictures.

White tigers are the most popular and attractive animals of the Liberec Zoo. The garden has had a special form of an Indian tiger since 1994, but it has only been successfully bred twice, in 2002 and 2012. The caretakers already know that a male and a female were born at the end of February, both weighing over six kilograms. According to Melichar, they lack vitamin B, which outwardly manifests as an unnatural tilt of the head to the side. However, this does not worry the nurses too much yet. “The same problem was with the previous litters,” said Melichar. Vitamin B will be added to the tiger cubs’ feed – meat, which they are beginning to show interest in.
Names for the tigers are chosen by the zoo based on tips from the public. She has already received over 1200, proposals can be sent until the end of April. The babies will be christened on May 21. The godparents will be Spejbl and Hurvínek, and a representative of the White Tigers hockey players, who won the title in the extra league for the first time on Sunday, should also arrive at the christening. Four years ago, the then team captain Petr Nedvěd became one of the godfathers of the youngsters.
There are only a few dozen white tigers worldwide. It is an artificially bred rarity that would not survive in the wild. The beasts come from India and their white coloring is due to partial albinism, when they lack the orange pigment.
